Here are some of the Frequently Asked Questions:

-------------------------------------

What is the price?

Eggs are $4.00 for a dozen. They come packaged in attractive egg cartons.

Poultry is $3/lb for either the White Cornish Cross or the slow growing broilers. Turkeys are $3/lb.

Beef price is $3.00 per pound plus the butchers processing fee, usually 65 cents per pound. These are based on the hanging weight of the carcass prior to shrinkage from dry ageing and prior to loss from making retail cuts.

-------------------------------------

How much do they weight?

The poultry will usually be 3 - 4 lbs. They are bagged in large freezer bags. We will try to accomodate your size preference.

The Turkeys will vary depending on the type we offer. When we offer the conventional broad brested they will be from 16 to 24 lbs. When we offer the older "New Holland" they will be from 10 to 14 lbs.

-------------------------------------

Why do they cost more than those in the store?

The price reflects the higher feed and labor costs. "Real" feed cost more than the feed given to conventional poultry. Our manual processing while more hygenic is also more labour intensive than the USDA approved methods.

-------------------------------------

How are the broilers sold?

We sell only ready to cook whole dressed birds. Poultry is available fresh on processing day or frozen afterwards.

To avoid disappointment advanced orders are suggested.

-------------------------------------

What are the processing and delivery dates?

For 2010 we are doing two process dates per month from April through September. Our email newsletter provides information on availability and dates.

-------------------------------------

How long does it take for the poultry to get ready?

White Cornish Cross take 8 weeks to grow out. The slow broilers take 12 weeks. Turkeys take from 12 - 20 weeks.

-------------------------------------

Where is the farm?

We are located at Union Grove about 15 minutes south of Huntsville

-------------------------------------

What about inspections?

Due to the size of our operation we are exempt from inspections. However, my wife Penny inspects the operation and the products with a vigilance unmatched by any government bureaucrat.

-------------------------------------

Are they organic?

The term organic is regulated by the government. It pertains to their feed and not their environment. Our feed ration is not Certified Organic but it is a custom all-natural blend free from anti-biotics, hormones, and arsenic.

-------------------------------------

Are they free range?

The term free range is regulated by the government. To label your products thusly you need only to "provide access to the outside" without actually going out. Conversely our poultry is kept outside on fresh grass, fresh air and sunshine and not allowed "access inside" once they are 2 weeks old.
