Turkeys
Our Turkeys are raised on pasture and with the same all natural feed mix as the regular broilers. In the past we have raised the conventional broad brested turkey. For 2009 we raised the White Holland. That was the commercial turkey until the advent of the broad brested bird. These delicious birds will be a special treat on your holiday table for your family to enjoy.
Our day old chicks are purchased from a small hatchery in south Alabama. Initally, they are housed in a wood chip lined brooder and fed our custom blend of all natural poultry feed. As soon as the birds are old enough (2-3 weeks, depending on the weather) they are moved into their permanant pens on the pasture. They are daily moved to fresh green forage and continue to receive all natual feed. This is one of the distinctions of our pastured poultry.
The Cornish Cross is processed at 6 to 8 weeks and yeilds a plump juicy bird with abundant white meat. The Slow Broiler is prcessed at 12 weeks or more and yeilds a longer carcass with darker meat. These birds are typically offered at fine white tablecloth restraunts.
Customer approval has been very high on both types of poultry. We invite you to try one for yourself!
We implement a management system that is "animal friendly" putting birds on fresh green grass with ample sunshine, fresh air, exercise, shelter, and our custom all natural feed blend.
The Pastured Poultry diet produces a bird with a much healthier nutritional profile. Pastured Poultry is higher in nutrients and antioxidants and lower in saturated fat and cholesterol. View the differences here.
Our Pastured Poultry is carefully hand processed on the farm. It is dressed, chilled and bagged the day of sale.
Broilers
We offer the Cornish Cross used in conventional production as well as a Slow Broiler which is processed at 12 weeks of age.
The fast growing Cornish Cross is the typical poultry found in most supermarkets.
The Slow Broiler is generally more elongated, with a smaller breast and larger legs.
